Chapter 13- Talk with Denae

I looked at Nerringne surprised. Go to Ursenfold, but how? I mean I don’t othink either one of us has that much power to go there. Wouldn’t it hurt her to go since she’s a goddess? Well a banished one at that. But either way, Goddesses who enter Ursenfold are hurt by an invisible force that burns them. Same thing if a demon wanders into Skylerk.  Nerringne pulled me up from the ground, her eyes shining bright cerulean in the moon’s light. Our clothes were tattered and covered in dirt, but that was the least of our worries.

“How are we gonna get into Ursenfold?” It was a question that was probably on her mind too and one that needed to be asked. She put a finger to her chin as she contemplated the thought. I wonder….how is she gonna get out of this one?

“I have some power I stored up from when I was staying in the forest. If I can use that, then we might be able to get there…..” My mind began to race. Doesn’t she know that she could die just entering there?

“Wait a minute! Won’t it hurt you if you go to Ursenfold?!”

“Yes….good point. We’re gonna need back up then.” Her eyes lit up and her mouth coiled into a sly smile.  “And I know just the people…”

“Really who?” I don’t like the sound of this. It sounds troublesome and eerie like a totally disaster is about to come to light. She grabbed my arm and started to bring out her wings again, stray feathers dispersing when they emerged. “Wait, where are we going?!”

“You ask too many questions, you know that? Anyway we’re going to your house.”

Knock Knock

Nerringne knocked at my door, even though she knew I had the key to my house. She must not be thinking clearly, but who could when these events take place so suddenly. No one answered and I was about to suggest that I would just open the door, until finally the door creaked open.

“What do you want?”

Denae leaned against the doorway, her arms folded and her lips turned into a scowl.  I could tell she was quite unhappy that we were there and maybe even the fact that I didn’t use a key.  Nerringne stood forth curtsying, her wings folding in as she did.  I watched Denae’s reaction. Some part of her found it surprising that she had wings the other part was disgust.

“Do you know where Daria is Denae? We need her  for an important trip…” Nerringne’s voice was no longer sweet as it usually was when she came over, not it was demanding and controlling. A sort of power building  in her voice.  Denae scoffed at her before seeing the Nerringne was serious. “Denae this is an important matter so I will need your cooperation……”

“My cooperation? Haha do you really think I’ll cooperate with you?!”

“Will you just do it please!” I was tired of hearing her talk. She has been nothing but mean to me and my sister and now when we actually need her, she won’t help. Why was she even part of our family anyway?....She snarled before turning away.

“She went to that ceremony of hers. She waited for you but you never showed up so she kept it moving. There no leave me alone.” She started to close the door on us until Nerringe stopped it with her foot.

“Not just yet Denae. You will need to come with us too.”

“What for? I don’t need to do anything. Now really just leave me alone.” She started to push the door further but Nerringne’s wings prevented it.  Nerringne smirked as I sat back letting the events play out.

“What’s the matter Denae? You’d usually fight back or something, but today you’re running away.” That hit a nerve and I could tell because Denae’s eyes glowed red with anger and a snarl escaped her throat. Nerringne looked down at the glove covered hands that laid at Denae’s sides. “Oh so that’s it. You’re still  sealed by Daria aren’t you?”

“So what I’ll be able to release it soon!”

“Is that so? When will that be in 20 years?”

“Grr….”

“How about this if you help us, then I will release your seal. Deal?”

“………….Fine but how would you be able to do that you pipsqueak?!”

“Just take us to Daria and I’ll show you.” Denae got up without another word and left with us to find Daria.
