ConfrontationA Poem by ElisaI can't waste another day being silent. You walked into the room, drink in hand and a smile on your face. After giving me a hug, you asked me how I was, so now I'll tell you the truth. I guess I could just fake oblivion. Stand there, eyes down Stop myself from staring across the room, but part of me longs for this dreaded confrontation. I want the chance to say what's been fermenting in this half-empty heart. Though I may not open the keg and pour, I just need the chance. I could compare the months to years, or decades, or centuries, but I'm done being dramatic, or pretentious or demanding that the world listen to me Making you my slave is painful enough. I keep telling myself it's your fault. Just say the word, and I'll free you! But your silence is a gag pressed deep into my throat. So, in case you're wondering, I'm still pacing, fermenting, suffering.
