The Last SummerA Poem by ElisaA window into my final days before a new chapter begins. This is the summer of the cleanest dew, the softest lawns, the hottest sun, And the clearest waters This is the summer of the loudest booms the fastest songs the brightest lights And tastiest food This is the summer of blisters and chafing Of zooming cars and unplanned adventures Of piggy banks overflowing with doubt Of stuffed animals, Of dorm furniture This is the summer of final chances, fragile and weightless as dandelion tufts, This is the summer of airport farewells Of smiles plastered with false bravado. This is the summer of bleak reality when you will become the dandelion tuft that will fly on the high of your own ambition, leaving me on the shores of Unknown. My eyes are closed, holding you here, until summer's rays of light shine in your eyes again.
