I See WhiteA Poem by ElisaFrom a woman to a man torn apart by decadesYou sound the same after all those years, and all those years later my heart is beating faster. What spell is this, That transcends years and distance? I see white. Is that your hair, or your ghost soaked in youth? It is only this shadow that I dance with at night. Is it your knowledge that enthralls me, burned into wrinkles on your brow? Is it the strength in your arms, that carries each waking moment? Is it your eyes, gray as smoke that suffocate me gently? Please just… leave me. Scorch the skin of a wiser woman. Retract the palm that sears my shut eyes. When they're shut, I see white. Is that blinding rage alone, or the heaven that floats in your gaze? No! I said Leave me alone! Go back to your land of melodies and pleasantries, and leave me here to drown in innocence. You look the same after all those years, and long after you're gone I will still see white.
