I See White

I See White

A Poem by Elisa
"

From a woman to a man torn apart by decades

"

You sound the same

after all those years,

and all those years later

my heart is beating faster.

What spell is this,

That transcends years and distance?

Because now,

I see white.

Is that your hair,

or your ghost soaked in youth?

It is only this shadow

that I dance with at night.

Is it your knowledge that enthralls me,

burned into wrinkles on your brow?

Is it the strength in your arms,

that carries each waking moment?

Is it your eyes, gray as smoke

that suffocate me gently?

Please just…

leave me.

Scorch the skin of a wiser woman.

Retract the palm that sears my shut eyes.

When they're shut,

I see white.

Is that blinding rage alone,

or the heaven that floats in your gaze?

No!

I said

 Leave me alone!

Go back to your land of melodies and pleasantries,

and leave me here to drown in innocence.

You look the same

after all those years,

and long after you're gone

I will still see white.

Author's Note

Elisa
Though this poem is less applicable to my own life, I thought it would be interesting to explore the psyche of a young woman who's in love with an older man, more taboo topic to be sure, which is why I made the audience "teen". The poem itself doesn't have any brow-raising language, but I think just the nature of this topic should be for readers that are a little bit older. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the poem, and have a wonderful day! <3 Elisa

I just had words, "Interesting and wonderful"
