A Poem by Elisa
"

For my best friend, who will never read this.

"
Scribbling, sitting
Staring at you
Through absent light
replaced with jaded smiles,
and absent sound
filled by lonely fantasies.

"I'm here!"
Your voice, so deep and earnest
soothes my shaking hands
while your fingertips glide
through the waves in my hair.

How is it I'm closest to you
in this dungeon of unspoken words?

My single ray of sunset,
you always, always fade from me
Like wisps of musky incense
you fly to foreign arms
and leave me here - in darkness.

Instead, be rain, my sunset,
so your touch can grace my lips,
and the cooling waters in your kiss
can fill my cup of lonliness.

I stand out on the concrete shore
Staring at you fade again
And as night fills this cell, my hope
remains within our next embrace.

I'm grateful, please believe me.
I'm chained here just for you.
but tell me, dearest sunset:
Are you imprisoned too?

very much welcome
A single ray of sunset, fading, yet possibly, also imprisoned? Beautiful. Though the sadness is relentless, which makes the title of the poem rather ironic. It is difficult to explain it when people get close to us, but during the same process, also seem to engineer distance....then closeness...then distance....probably just like the sun....... Great writing!
