I woke up, knowing today was a special day. I yawned, went to the bathroom, slicked back my hair and brushed my teeth. I quickly took a shower, made sure I looked good with my short brown hair styled and stubble trimmed to perfection. I smiled and went back to my room, grabbing my best suit and looking to the frame sitting at the bedside table.

A happy family of three posed in a natural position with a lake behind them. All three were smiling, even the cranky one year old was smiling an adorable toothless grin. My adorable baby was held by my beautiful wife. Her blonde hair tied in a casual, messy bun, bright brown eyes and a dimpled smile that could always light up my day. I love my wife, so much.

I met her in highschool and we went to college together. (Wherever she went, I followed). She got a law degree and worked at a firm for a bit and I had a job at some company until Anna was born. When that happened I became a stay at home dad to take care of my beautiful baby girl.

Speaking of, I heard the little patters of feet and a soft knocking on my door. “Daddy?”

I laughed and said “It’s alright to come inside, sweetie.” The door slightly creaked open and my little six year old girl’s smiling face greeted me.

“Daddy, I can’t find my dress,” she said somewhat nervously with her innocent child voice.

“Don’t worry,” I chuckled. “It’s right here. I washed it last night.” I grabbed the pristine dress from the bed and drug it over her head. She made a face at the pressure. I smiled and dusted off her dress, then tied a black ribbon around her waist. I took her blonde curls in hand and tied them in small pigtails perfectly.

“You’re so pretty, sweetie! Mommy’s going to love it,” I said with a cheery smile. She gave a bright grin in return and I led her to the car, grabbing a bouquet from the table along the way. Locking the door, I watched as Anna tried opening the car door, yet it was locked. I took the keys in hand and unlocked the car.

After helping Anna into her carseat, I drove and drove until she fell asleep. All of this is worth it for the specialness of today.

We finally arrived at our destination, and Anna woke up as the car stopped. “Honey, we’re here,” I say with a smile. She nodded and rubbed her eyes while waiting for me to help her out of the car.

Together, hand in hand, we stepped onto the green fields and trudged up the hills. It’s okay because today is a special day, and it’s all worth it.

We finally reached her and I set down the bouquet of lilies on the closed off piece of grass. “Hi Honey!” I smile and sit down on the grass with Anna in my lap. “Look how big Anna’s grown, honey! She looks just like you!” I laugh but the forced joy turns to tears and I hold Anna tightly in my arms.

“I miss you, my love,” I say as the flower petal floats onto the tombstone.

(Being buried alive is a terrible way to die, I think with a smile.)

This is a really sad story first it started of happy and everything and i didn't expect what was going to happened. Your descriptions were really nice i knew exactly what was happening. Like i said the twist was very unexpected and you did a really good job easing into the twist. If had to critique anything it would be to add more into it cause it was very interesting, maybe more on his relationship with his wife.

This is amazing, descriptive story, i really enjoy how you explain Anna and the way she looks, i also enjoy the ending it made the story change with a few words. Maybe (if you decide to write a part two or not) you explain what they were like in high school in high school and in college, maybe how they met. Or how the wife died.
