The Room

When you make the wrong choices....

First breath, and you're in the room,

White bright walls, no sight of the gloom,

But as you explore and walk through the doors,

You begin to notice some blackened cores.

Still you don't pay attention, there are many possibilities,

You open every door and realize your capabilities,

But they're not what you wanted, the result is depression,

Thought of the pain it causes fills you with aggression.

Paint the walls black, their radiance is too much,

A large stain is left, with each brush's touch,

Feeling of progress feeds your madness,

So much you ignore the inner sadness.

You think you'll feel better, now that all's pitch- black,

But you're lost in the dark, you can't go back,

The only thing you see in the darkness is this:

A large red exit door, a sign of eternal bliss.

Many have walked that path, so where's the harm?

But reaching for the doorknob, something touches your arm,

Hand in hand, with a brush we paint back the room white,

Until everything is clean again, with darkness absent from sight.

So remember, there will always be one person blocking your way,

And the only way to pass that person is to with you take it away.

I decided it was time for me to write another poem about emotions, not just some fantasy stories. I hope that everyone will like it!

This is a very fresh piece. I love how the rhythm is constant, much like a heartbeat, and the imagery of black and white fits. MY favorite is the ending. It rings so true and is something that no one really realizes until they've seen that 'red exit sign" in the dark. Thought provoking work here.
