The Gift That Keeps On Giving

The Gift That Keeps On Giving

A Poem by Peter Buknatski
"

Late follow-up Christmas Card to all those special folks across the seas. Thinking of you always.

"

we sent you a bomb

for  Christmas

did you get it?

they told us

that this bomb

was the latest

in state-of-the-art

bomb design

the instructions

were a b***h

and in all those

foreign languages

did it work?

we decided here

that we would send

bombs instead

of clothes

because a bomb

is one size fits all

hope you liked it

the holidays

were stressful here

what with the bail-out

and all

bombs however

were pretty cheap

this season

go figure

anyway we'll be sending

more bombs

as the economy

recovers

we just hope

it doesn't become trendy

you know

everybody sending bombs

that would drive

the prices up

and also make

sending a bomb

well...common

but we can switch

to missiles I guess

though they don't seem

quite as festive

hope everything else

is well

please send us

any pictures you have

of how the bomb

went  over

we're going to Greece

next month

and we'd like to have

an album

we can pass around

love

your American friends

and oh yes of course

peace
