Garbage Tip ScavengerA Poem by Pete Langley.....just the dawning of an idea? The
rabbits have scampered from the hawk
down
their holes, the
cockroaches into the narrowest of cracks away
from the light, and the
scraps of dreams are fast
disappearing below the surface as I
wake.
Only the
scum of detritus is left, but
jutting just enough to see the edge, I can
see a word through
the corrugated slats of my
cardboard tent of sleep,
ink-black against the red dawn.
Yes, I will have to dig deep into the trash to find
the whole sentence, but
sometimes half-exposed letters can be the first links of a buried chain.
