A Lonely Soul

A Lonely Soul

A Poem by P.J. Lowry

I know she's out there, living her life

while far behind I stand, wondering

if there could, there might be any room

for me in her vast, complicated world.

Yet I hesitate, always cowering away

so afraid to ask or try to find out

if she might have the same feelings

I experience when I’m in her presence.

What I truly fear most is rejection

left out to watch what might have been

while all of my dreams wash away

like unwanted raindrops on a sidewalk.

While I’m neither successful nor rich

what I do happen to bring to the table

is genuine; my work, my love, my passion

talents that are inspired by my desires.

I stand here wishing I had the strength

but rot behind cowardice like a prisoner

wondering if that day will ever come

the only thing I know for sure; it’s not today.
