I love this and not just the words but the attitude and optimism they reflect. I write for myself and my kids mostly, outside of songwriting. But my poetry will be forgotten like my very existence in time. I often feel like the words of Shelley, "Nothing beside remains round the decay of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare, the lone and level sands stretch far away.” John Donne was mostly forgotten until championed by no less than Thomas Eliot. Maybe some future poet may find my scribblings and pull my memory from obscurity as well. But I have my doubts. I enjoyed the read. F.

I also have hand written poems done by my maternal grandmother and and my dad and drawings by my mom when she was a young woman - these are very special to me and I intend to pass them on to my kids. I think it a valiant effort on your part to share part of yourself through your writings with your children. I hardly knew my own father. I mean, he was always there as provider and dad but I never "knew" him as a person. He kept much of himself to himself. He was a WWII vet and had been in many battles as a young man. I think it weighed greatly on his psyche. But those were adult things kids need not worry about. That was his way of sheltering us from the brutal realities of war I guess. Your kids are blessed you want to give to them a part of yourself and I'm certain, in time, they will come to that realization as well.

I am sure your family will remember you happily Carl.
And Fabian, I am not so sure about that...
They say once you put something in the web it stays forever. And your work is already touching lives through here. If even only one person reads my work I am already so happy. Thank you so much friends.

For some reason this reminds me of the opening scene of the video game Chrono Cross lol. YouTube it if you don't know it.

I am glad that you enjoyed this poem.
Take good care friend.
in some ways I think this is what we are about ...
We can listen to you.
We can feel you.
Almost touch you...
We can know you, !!! ( emphasis mine )
yeah pretty much we seek to be known. - If a poet speaks in the forest and no one hears does he make a noise - or something like that. I feel I do write to help me understand myself and also the enjoyment of the work, but if no one reads I can probably just keep my thoughts to myself.

I felt like doing this work thinking about all the writers and readers.
And we can still read the poets of old times, they are forever with us.
