The life we lost

The life we lost

A Story by The_Ancient_Rock
"

A short prose poem about love and loss.

"

Something died within me...

Guess it was the long walks through flowery fields,

Picnics by the river…

Romantic sunsets…

Nights at the beach…

Sessions of music and poetry…

Candle light dinners…

Taking you to the movies…

All the times I made you laugh…

All our kisses and hugging…

All the nights we made love…

Our never born children playing…

Our so happy home life…

Our so happy life…

All the things we could have done…

And never even tried…

All our crushed dreams…

All I wanted was your love…

But that’s way more than you could ever give me.

Our never born children curse us…

For the life we never gave them…

For the life we never lived…

For the life we lost.

A heartfelt poem about loss, very powerful in that you speak of never born children…which opens up deep thinking about this… were they stillborn? Could you not get pregnant? Did they die in a tragic accident? All of these notions come to my mind…. Sadly….. and what ever happened is a horrendous loss, perhaps an incomplete family…..your words are emotional and it seems that you feel guilty you could not give them life as it should be, so in your mind you feel as if they curse you….
Excellent writing on a disturbing subject.

Keep at it. Teach yourself by honestly comparing what you write to a greatness like Seamus Heaney or Wallace Stevens or Marianne Moore or Neruda.

I have known this feeling in the past, far past but somehow that feeling does dissipate over the years and that I believe is a good thing. Nicely described, your poem expresses those feeling of loss perfectly

Poignant reflections here of intimate and loving moments through the eyes of a romantic dreamer. All those possibilities, not to come to fruition.

All that was ever wanted, yet not to be.

Anyway... sometimes it's not what we do.

It's what we don't do.
