A moment of pause

A moment of pause

A Poem by The_Ancient_Rock
"

Light.

"

Lately I find myself with too much free time on my hands...

So… I stand here at the site…

Write something, read something…

Movies don’t call that much to me anymore.

Still enjoy listening to some music…

I enjoy other people’s poetry…

And my own as well…

The clashing of worlds,

Seems almost inevitable.

So… I stand here in these dark nights…

No one else, but me and the Raven…

Nevermore, nevermore, nevermore!!!

Thinking about all I’ve gained…

To all… That I’ve lost…

Seems a hard bargain indeed…

So… I’m around…

Writing… reading…

Doing something other,

Than distracting myself…

And doing so… at the same time.

Try not to look at it,

like some fleshy thing,

but rather something from…

the soul.

A petty thing really…

Nothing much…

Something simple…

Poetic slumbering.

Alas… such is life…

At least… for some.

Started doing poetry…

Now… I’m more in a sort of prose…

The nights seem quiet…

But I do like it loud,

So sometimes I call

all my friends…

So we can all play

for a little while.

Ah… that damn raven!

Could just pluck his head off…

Really could! I say!

This never ending presence…

I listen to some Rolling Stones songs…

They could not be more right…

Tell me children…

Are we entering the long night?

Well…

Soldier on!

Soldier on I say…

Till the long dark night…

We must all keep the light!!!

Right!!! It does become something of a thing, a moment to think, to read, to write and yes, listen to some Stones music. There is always a raven...nothing you can do about it. Pluck its head off and another appears. They just like hanging around. So, night or day, it doesn't matter...read on, write on, right on!

sounds like an okay creed to me. music, poetry, stones. the stones must have it right - the elusive secret formula. there are worse things in life. that is why i always carry a sword ... :)

I watched a Rattle poetry broadcast the other day you might find useful. An Irish poet named Dullaghan? talked about the importance of revision.
You are full of raw talent. The trick is to learn how to harness it. You might find Rattle.com of interest.

Good morning from Lisa in Spain,
Yes, finding within us is the little something that inspires us to write.
Quite often I just write and have no idea what is happening…like someone else is writing. Some say that is my muse.
But other times I work on structure…which does not come easily. I enjoy structure and as I do use it I find it becomes second nature to me.
I am inspired by so many things so finding something to write about is not difficult.
Staying out of my head is what works for me.
Letting my “soul” take over,
Lisa

You are most welcome!
I paused too, to read your thoughts. I enjoy other people’s poetry and I am certainly a fan of the Stones. Whether you write poetry or prose you just need to have soul in your work. Good to soldier on. Pleased I stopped by.

Awesome. Thank you so much Chris!

My pleasure.

I think we must have some soul in order to write poetry...and hopefully poetry that has soul.
We pause, we gather thoughts, we write. I like where the speaker says he tries not to look at it as some fleshy thing.
Sometimes I think of form poetry that way...a fleshy thing...but often with the soul missing...not always but sometimes.
