Joshua and BeatrixA Chapter by peter Charlesworth Part One Chapter 1: Joshua
and Beatrix 1 Preparations Beatrix and Joshua were
preparing for the journey from Beatrix’s parent’s (Joseph and Julie) home in
Kuilard in Holland to Joshua’s parent’s home in the West Riding of Yorkshire
following their recent wedding, and touring honeymoon in Holland. Beatrix was having words
with him because he had paid in full for new shop premises in Dewsbury town
centre. ‘You should not have
spent all your money on me Grand papa.’ ‘Am I not allowed to
spend my money on my favourite granddaughter? I am spending it all on
you now, to avoid you paying tax on it, when I have no use for it. It means that you will
have no rent to pay out, as you are building up you client base, I know the
Joshua is earning good money to keep you both from his sales; I am just trying
to ensure your future.’ ‘When you look at it
like that grand pop, it does make sense, but it is so much money.’ ‘I am not stoney broke;
at my age we do not need thousands of Guilderen, in order to have a good life
and I still have a small income from my investments.’ Joshua entered. ’Gran and I have packed
a parcel to be sent on by carrier later; So, we will only have one suitcase for
the journey. ‘We will take you to
Stavoren tomorrow morning and see you safely on board. ‘Beatrix will send a
letter to tell you about the journey and the shop, just give us a few days to
sort things out, furniture and workers and such things, we will be lodging with
my grandparents, there house is like a mansion, you will have to come over to
meet them and see the shop.’ Joseph said. ‘We haven’t seen Harold
and Martha for quite some time,’ ‘It would be nice to
come over in spring, or may be early autumn to catch the colours, then Beatrix
should have everything organized, to be able to have a few days off to take us
around.’ Said July. Beatrix replied, ‘By
autumn we should have department managers in place to keep the shop running
smoothly. Harold is going to pick
up the keys tomorrow, so that we can get in early on Thursday to have a
clean-up, builders always seem to leave dust and bits of wood and stuff around,
don't they? Then we will need to
measure up for floor coverings and sales furniture, counters and display
stands, and such things and spending, or planning to spend, Grandad Stubley’s
money. © 2023 peter CharlesworthReviews
