Miles of sidewalk and road have hurt me so
You and he see wonder but it's as though
I am shown the way, thoughts for today
As I wake up with a panicked cattle low
The moon flowers have retreated, so small
They do not jump out of bed or yell
They do not wear too-small shoes or call
As imagined voices, offering to sell
There is no hesitation, no intrigue this day
My senses absorb, drink from the wellspring
Your closeness fades, that's what I say
Smile facing forward, with steel I sing
oh those steely smiles we wear...when inside we are hurting so much....so much lost, those voices, the jumping out of bed, the caring about wanting to face another day...and yes, your closeness is fading, and with it, my zest for life...love the irony.
i find your writing quite intriguing....there is a certain ambiguity that allows us to explore not only your poems, but ourselves at the same time.

Some of them are embossed with turn-of-the-century filigree while others are plain, porcelain, round, oblong, angular and swirly. They all open doors that no longer exist. Some of what you write is rather like that, Jacob. I like to imagine the doors and the houses or rooms that they serviced as functional portals and all that they may have contained.

Nothing is lonelier than when the one who should be company to our souls leaves us lonely. As Robin Williams said, "I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone. It's not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people that make you feel all alone."

This reminds me - who said it - we are born alone and we die alone.
Adding to that I think - all the stuff in between - we go through it - or we don't. As much as it may hurt, the better option is to go through it and not stay in one painful place.
Thought this was an eloquent write. There was a disciplined resignation to the piece.

Thank you. I appreciate your comments and taking time to read.

The fading relationship, the lost intrigue and the kept on smiles after the fact of the day looking forward ahead. I like the idea too of moon flowers. Thank you for sharing...:).................

A word of advice though, be sure to say at least one thing that's somewhat critical too. It will make you seem well-rounded and balanced. Not that you aren't, of course, just saying... :)
