The Giver and GreedA Story by PerdioA short story about a giver, and greed
In a small land, there are many people, but this story revolves around two individuals, neighbors. Both men lived on Chiflado street; They were both farmers, and they both live in the same size house. Essentially, they are the same man. One of the two men, was named Codicia and the other man was named Compasivo. One day, on the way home from the market after a long day's’ sales, Codicia met a homeless man on the trail, and feeling obligated to help the man, gave him a dollar, a parcel of food and a few drops of water, but before Codicia could leave, the homeless man offered Codicia as many wishes as he wanted. So, Codicia wished for a nice house, and went home. Sure enough, a lovely house was in the place of Codicia’s old shack. Every day, Codicia went to the homeless man, and asked for some new luxury. This went on for some time, but the homeless man, feeling used, used some money he’d been saving up, and left on a bus for somewhere far away. Codicia had never wished for a good paying job, and he couldn’t pay for all his new trinkets and assets without the homeless man, and almost as soon as he had gained, he had lost and was back to where he had started.
The other man, Compasivo, also met the homeless man, and gave him all he had on him, only keeping a small piece of meat and a few cents with him, as as he had done for Codicia, the homeless man offer Compasivo as many wishes as he wanted, but to the man's surprise, Compasivo wanted nothing in return for his generosity. Later on the trail home, Compasivo met a starving, stray, dog. Feeling pity, Compasivo gave the dog the small piece of meat he had on him, and went on his way home. Later, he say another homeless man, and wanting to help, gave the man the few cents that he had, and continued on home. At the end of the day, eating supper, Compasivo wasn’t sad, for he was wealthy in the happiness of others, and fully content and happy with himself. © 2016 Perdio |
