Ebonics

Ebonics

A Poem by Mr. Deft Diction
"

This is an ode to a CLASSIC...CLASSIC joint by burgeoning rap star, Big L, who died all too soon. R.I.P. Big L

"

The dope boys in the trap....

slingin' 'candy' to the rats,

while rubber bands are holdin' stacks.

Stacks meaning 'guac',

and 'guac' means money.

Holdin' it down means I'm here,

and they can't take it from me.

To be 'son'd' means you got learned,

you're a 'go-getter' from what you earned.

We know what it means to get burned,

'I'm on top' means it's my turn!

Kings hold court;

but them Aces be the highest.

Dimes used to be nice,

but if you got 'high-cheekbones' you're the flyest.

Far as rappers go, I might be the finest.

I could've let the colloqualisms go;

but then I'd digress.

A 'shawty' is a youngin'....

youngin's stop at 25.

You're skatin' on 24's?

That means you have a nice ride.

Starlight in your eyes,

better grab ya Louis Vuitton frames.

Unless you're feeling Gucci,

then you grab ya Dana Danes.

A honey with an 'apple bottom' means she got some

caboose on the train.

Peoples g. Riot means that from now on

lyrics will never be the same....

MAN!!! That Louis Vuitton frames, Gucci, Dana Dane line is sick!

Thank you for the sincere reviews!

I know what 'guac' means, because i was watching this hip hop show where they went into definition about what certain hip hop terms mean. lol.

but overall, each line, each phrase, has meaning, holds weight, which is what I love to read here are some, of many, that support what I mean.

Kings hold court;

but them Aces be the highest.

(nice. They think they are Kings, but hey, whose worth more?) I wrote a line like that in one of mypieces (not on here) that said to a guy who treats her bad...."All you give me are aces, what I need is the royal flush...." but in the way you put it here, it is tight!1

HOT ENDING!!

Peoples g. Riot means that from now on

lyrics will never be the same....

(a kanye like feel. i love it! you tell it! to be a rapper, you have to be confident, or your competitors will push you over like dominoes!)

I like this piece. I was able to get a good rhythm without trying just by reading it. It brought me back to the days standing in a circle having people battle back and forth for street credit. I enjoyed this a lot.
