The Halloween Visitor

By Ken Edwards

It is time once again for a little friendly fright

We once more say Hello to Halloween night

Time to say trick or treat

I hope I get lots of good things to eat

Who knows you might even see a ghost

You better hope in your home they choose not to host

It also a night of tricks and fun

Time to tune up your Howling… for another run

On this night the wind loves to blow through the trees

It makes a frightening whistle that shakes you to your knees

In the distance you hear the sound of thunder in your ears

It only reinforces and conjures up your fears

You wish now you had not turned down the party invite but you felt tired as a dog

Now it starts to blanket and bring in an eerily thick fog

The skies open up like a dark velvet curtain and it begins to rain

Lightning strikes nearby drilling chills into your brain

You decide to pop some corn on your stove

The rain pounds like hammers and in your ears is wove

You choose to watch a scary movie all alone

Saying nervously to yourself I hope I am the only one home

You question what was that sound on the stairs that went bump?

It made you spill your popcorn and take a little jump

Hopefully now you don’t hear a door go creak…..

That will give you a startle and make it hard to speak

Who is that knocking at your door?

It awakes your mind as you put your feet to the floor.

You go to the front door and see it is slightly ajar

Opening it quickly you see a scary clown with a scar

In a very low voice he wishes you,” Sweet Dreams”

He grabs a piece of candy from the bowl and leaves with a scream

You close and lock the door and look at the clock on the wall

Halloween in over according to the chiming clock in the hall

It is time to go bed but you know you will get no sleep

You mop your floors and give them a good sweep

The morning breaks through the window with its soothing light

You breathe a sigh of relief about your silly fears and you know you made through another Halloween night

You go out the front door to get your paper and look down.

There is the mask from that familiar creep clown

You see that something is written inside and it quotes

The English is bad and this is one crazy note

It reads,”Look for me again as the next Halloween draws near.”

“Because I shall return to haunt your mind once more, My Dear!”

Happy Halloween
