Silent snow fell to the ground and disappeared seconds
later. It has been like this for a hundred years now. The sun hasn’t been seen
in those years - the moon is the new sun now, though it has no glow, it does
the job. People have never seen the stars these days, I’ve never seen
the stars; the sky is a gloomy place it has no colour, it has no warmth. Everything in our world is froze over, the water of oceans,
lakes and rivers are all now ice and snow. The population had shrunk by
millions, billions maybe " so many people died all those years ago, those that survived
built a wall around all the major cities of the world " the gates are closed
everyday of every hour. Sydney’s water froze over blue and the once famous bridge
froze and fell apart 50 years ago, those that were on the opposite side haven’t
been heard in 50 years, those that tried to cross the ice never came back "
those that stayed behind were mostly woman and children. My father was one of the many to disappear. People lost hope
after a few years and now no one goes across the ice. To dangerous they say;
but one of these days we will and it won’t be by choice. When the bridge fell 50 years ago, creatures of ice
appeared. Animals that had adapted to the cold were evolving; nobody knows how
they came to be all we know is that they’re here and want our flesh. We call them, Night raiders… The night raiders are the main reason why the wall was
built, to keep them out and us trapped like rats. Though I’ve never seen one in
person I’ve heard stories about them, about how they have ice blades shooting
out of their shoulders and their claws are massive and ready to shred anything
to pieces. Sometimes I can hear them howl and cry in the night I can’t
sleep those night, instead it’s always colder than usual. You can hear people
scream in fear or the rare scream of death " those that try to be brave usually
end up dead. People these days aren’t stupid enough to risk their own
lives, they say those that do brave things end in a bloodily mess. Which in
many cases is true, those that do came back are seen as fouls not heroes. But
even so, more than anything would I like to see the world outside the walls
even if there are creatures that will tear me to shreds. One of these days I will see the world outside… © 2015 PenguinEmpiressAuthor's Note
