The Well

The Well

A Poem by Kevin
"

Giving up can sometimes cost more than you can imagine.

"

The Well

I stare once more into the well.
The long dusty emptiness destroyer of my dreams.
Destroyed, my family has abandoned me.
Abandoned, my soul shrivels in the cold morning light.

I miss her, my Rachel.
Blonde curls smelling of jasmine and silken skin.
I miss my son Micah.
His bright joyous smile and heart so full of love
I miss myself though I can’t remember why.

Over the hill he approaches.
He walks with purpose mysteriously dark.
The grass fades with each step of his black dirty boots.
Nature quiets itself in hiding from his cold blue eyes.

I am not afraid.
I welcome him.
My thirst will finally be quenched.
I shall be freed.

He smiles knowingly but passes me by.
I want to cry out for his attention but fail.
He cares not for that which is already dead.
I want to grab his ebony jacket and demand release, but I don’t.

He searches only for those who still fight for life.
All I can do is stare once more into my well.

A very good poem! The well is successfully used as a poetic prop. Nice going!

Very moving poem Kevin. It depicts desperation, and the soloution so many seek.
(nature quiets itself hiding from his cold blue eyes) a unique description of death
in these line. Well done.
