Contemporary Blues

A Poem by Pennywriter

Contemporary Blues

I don’t speak Greek:

Mathematics

And History,

Sculptures

And Busts a plenty,

It’s so dated

To me…

I don’t speak Japanese:

Sticks

And houses,

Black

On white paper,

Are all too sober

To me…

I don’t speak Italian:

Godfathers

And Mario Puzo,

Olive oil

On spaghetti,

Seem so slippery

To me…

I don’t speak Afrikaan:

Sorcerers

And dancers,

Drums

On scepters,

Seem so spooky

To me…

I don’t speak French:

Chefs

Wearing hats

In a kitchen,

And “fine cuisine”,

Are too refined

To me…

I don’t speak Hindi:

English

And Hindi,

A mishmash,

Sounds

So unsavory

To me…

I Speak:

TV and coffee,

English

And newspapers,

Cigarettes and salary

Are bier

To me…

Definitely, coffee should be intravenously pumped around the body 24/7 with the TV in the background, sadly one gets kicked out the bar to smoke now. What happened to the world when I went for a nap.
