Gut

Gut

A Poem by Adam Light

I could have a conversation
with the wisest of them all,
but I'm a master of negation
with the most absurd pitfall,

So I doubt that I would learn
even a single splendid notion
if I gave a sage their turn
and listened with devotion.

I know I'm not the most proficient
or most gifted philosopher,
but I can only ever be efficient
when with my own gut I confer.
