Lost

Lost

A Poem by Adam Light

Before I was ever lost in thought,
I was lost in bliss.
I ran through the summer air
with lightning bugs, like this.
I was glad to roam the earth
without a care to call my own.
My troubles were the simple kind,
in a safety zone.
And after many years
of roaming with a heavy mind,
I find myself lost again
with only bliss to find.

Deep thoughts are beautifully expressed. This poem projects how one seeks happiness in life and wants to savour joy. I really liked this.

You're welcome. :)
Loss of innocence appears to be the theme of this offering. It begins with the observation by the speaker that before he became lost in thought, he was lost in bliss. This may echo the words of Ecclesiastes that he who increases knowledge also increases sorrow. The speaker mentions running through the summer air and roaming the earth without a care, with troubles only of "the simple kind,/ In a safety zone." Thus do the first two verses describe a childlike existence, before the world asserts itself. The last verse, however, reflects the attitude of the adult, who has roamed for many years "with a heavy mind." Whereas he was once lost in bliss, now he finds himself seeking that bliss which has been lost. I think this represents the lot of all of us who wonder about the whereabouts of our lost joy. Perhaps the true purpose of our lives lies in finally reuniting with that lost Eden. If you find the way, please send me a map. Well done.
