The World

The World

A Poem by Adam Light
"

Depression vs Empowerment

"

I used to think of the world as huge;

myself as small.

I pinpointed the flaws,

and resented them all.

What was I compared to this mess

that I did not design?

I knew I’d be happy

if the world was mine…

I struggled and fought

a good fight in my head,

Against a relentless enemy,

much better read

Answers, I thought,

would help me to win

And then I’d be happy,

and life could begin.

But one day, my ego flashed out,

and I floated aside,

and I saw the world without

my misguided guide.

I was always prepared

for the world to strike free

But all the years long,

the worst striker was me.

I no longer care

how to the world I compare,

For most of the time,

I’m the only one there.

Creation! In a dark place,

I choose to shine.

For when I create,

the world is mine.
