"Creases. At first, she was folded in on herself, a bundle of fears and limits and dark things she couldn't or wouldn't acknowledge. She was origami - a pretty, fragile thing that concealed far more than was displayed. Slowly, he pulled at her edges and worked her tight places until she began to unfurl. And as he opened each leaf to expose and examine what she had submerged, the malignancies evaporated. Fear became courage, 'no' became 'yes'. And when all of her bends were made smooth and the stiff things were made limber, only he and she remembered where the creases had been."
