On Mind Tricks & BBQ SauceA Chapter by Aram AlexanderA few weeks ago during a typical weekend family barbecue, I found myself deep in conversation with a middle-aged woman. The thing is, try as I might there was no way that I was able to recall how we started talking. Then, as if on cue, it all came flooding back to me. I remember the first thing that I noticed was that although it was dusk, she was wearing large dark sunglasses. Also there was that vague sense of understanding that the mutually bored inevitably share (or maybe that’s just me), since she didn't appear to be talking to anybody either. Also, she reminded me vaguely of a vampire because she had alabaster skin which made her crimson lipstick that much more noticeable. Although the table was relatively packed, I found a seat somewhat diagonally opposite to her. However she seemed lost in her own thoughts so I engage the person next to me in some small-talk. It must not have been anything to write home about because I began scanning the table out of sheer mind-numbing boredom. As I finish my “visual round” and reach for the beer in front of me, I happen to see the lady removing her sunglasses. Instinctively I make brief eye contact, and that is all I can recall. Yet roughly an hour later according to my watch, I regain consciousness (albeit not in the normal ‘wake up after sleeping’ sense) and I find myself chatting merrily away with the mysterious vampire woman with the white skin and eye-catching crimson lips. So I ask her what it is that she does, and with a mischievous smile playing on her lips, she tells me. Turns out she’s a hypnotherapist. Figures. Long story short, I think I just got mind-raped into having an hour-long conversation with a woman that may very well want to drink my blood. -.- So, how was YOUR weekend? © 2013 Aram Alexander |
