On Bouquets

On Bouquets

A Chapter by Aram Alexander

Bouquets are sad things.
Flowers that are cut from their nourishment and harvested just to show somebody that you care enough to destroy something beautiful, all simply so you can show her a collection of dying plants which, ironically enough, is supposed to represent her beauty.
Next time I want to show someone a token of affection I may just hand her a clump of weeds I plucked from a garden and tied with a red ribbon. Then one week later I'll bring her to the same garden and show her the beauty of the things that were allowed to flourish because I chose to kill a weed instead of a beautiful flower.
"If you want to show a girl just how much you truly love her, don't just buy her a bouquet; plant her a garden."
