Elements of Joy/Unrequited

Elements of Joy/Unrequited

A Poem by Aram Alexander
"

If you weren't the most popular kid in high school, I think you can relate.

"
Today I was jealous of the wind and the rain and the sun.
Because the wind caressed your silken hair and made you sigh with contentment, whereas I did not.
And then the rain began to fall and kissed your smooth skin and perfect lips a hundred thousand times, whereas I could not.
Then once the clouds lifted the sun came out to shine and warm you in its' arms, whereas I have only dreamed of holding you in mine.
Finally, a rainbow appeared and made you giggle with childish delight, its' vibrant colours showing me as beautiful a truth as it was painful.
Right then I realized that I could never hope to make you feel as alive as the elements, and that's okay.
I just want to see you smile.

For the wind and the rain and the sun.
