The Falcon's Tale

The Falcon's Tale

A Poem by PenFox

Once upon a time,
In the kingdom in the sky,
There was a mighty falcon,
Who always flew high.

He conquered altitude,
He was confident in his skills.
He had a winner's attitude,
He felt unstoppable.

One day, a hunter passed,
This frightened the young bird.
The hunter drew his bow,
And shot him without a word.

Though he did not kill,
The arrow hit his wing,
And shattered his will,
And the only death, was the one of his spirits.

Over time, the wing healed,
But he quit trying to hit a high altitude,
He flew only short distances,
He lost his winner's attitude.

One day,
Elder Falcon came around,
He told the young falcon,
'Either fly high, or walk upon the ground.'

The young falcon was confused.
What did he mean?
He pondered this,
As Elder left the scene.

For days he paced the floor,
He thought and thought,
'Till he couldn't think any more.
And suddenly, something struck him.

'I know now what you meant!'
He said after a bit.
He lept away from his home, up into the sky,
'He meant never quit!'

He soared through the clouds,
At dangerous speeds,
He flew proudly over the crowds,
And once again, conquered the sky.

Never again, did he ever quit,
From then on, he always aimed high,
So someday,
He could be Elder of the sky.

THE END.
