Rules of Engagement

Rules of Engagement

A Poem by Pen Draggin'

You've declared war

refusing to recede in peace.

Infiltrating my world like the ghosts of soldiers

on foreign shores.

You've done your recon

studied my face as if it were a topographic map.

Wading up to the knees of fatigues to touch my body like

memorizing the assembly and cleaning of an issued gun.

Stealthy you edge your way to the heart of me

following the bloodtrail of the wounded.

Our eyes caught in firefight with my skin heated red alert.

There is no stinging shrapnel in this free strike zone

and I am raising my white flag

a willing prisoner of war.

I like this one too. The combination of love and war is clever and make this interesting, though the topic very typical on a writing site.

I'm not sure why I have never reviewed this, but I love it.

They say all is fair in love and war. That could not be farther from the truth. Nothing is fair on the battlefield and your poem demonstrates this in a smart sharp unforgiving way.
"To touch my body like
memorizing the assembly and cleaning of an issued gun."
Such a powerful line.
I look forward to reading more.
