Phoenix in the Month of July

Phoenix in the Month of July

A Poem by Pen Draggin'

 God coughed His hot stinking breath
in my direction and the
cicadas screamed like the souls of the fallen.
Each a grain in the sands of hell
caught in His suspire like spittle that stings
and clings to wet lashes.
God cast His harsh light in order
to bleach my skin of it's sin.
It's kisses that had spread summer desert wildfire,
inducing analogous heats.
My lips, now white, dried, and cracked
will trade none of their secrets for His salvation;
absolution is arduous when we dwell in His damnation.

Alright. So these : "My lips, now white, dried, and cracked
will trade none of their secrets for His salvation;
absolution is arduous when we dwell in His damnation," are the greatest words ever written about any religious being or belief. So true and yet so subtle in its attack. Love it. This is amazing. Thank you for sending this to me.

I know this feeling well......smiles
I lived in Phoenix for 10 years and the heat
is like walking into an oven face first in July.
This was great and your choice of words were perfect.
Thanks for sharing.
