Look at the game girl

Look at the game girl

A Poem by Peggy Olson
"

Inspired by Charles Mason.

"
Life feels like a cascade of dreams
Lost in the confusion
It doesn't mean a thing
And all this is fading
These feelings are sealed

Look at your game, girl
Look at your game, girl

It's a resolution
tangible conclusion
It's not a game if the world's a stage
girl
The bad bad stage
Mad stage

Words are all I've got
a purposeful illusion is enough
I'll take the bow when it's done
By that time I'll believe it too
That's the deal
These feelings are sealed

Look at your game, girl
no no
Look at the game, girl

She doesn't feel
That's the most real

And I won't stop trying
And I won't stop crying
Stop trying
But she looks good crying

That's the stage
bad bad stage
mad stage
sad...stage

Author's Note

Peggy Olson
I stumbled across this song, "Look at your game girl" by Charles Manson, yes that Charles Manson. It stuck with me in a haunting way. The song is about a girl pretending to be in love, in the song Mason is warning her to stop pretending else she'll break her own heart. It haunted me until I finally wrote my own version of it, a sort of response, made in the same tune.

I don't condone any crimes committed by Manson, I just find the song fascinating is all.

I like this lyric and the message inside of it cant say I'm versed in Manson Music or musings so cant compare the tunes but yours has a deep and strong form voice in it with a boom chaka kick drum back beat! (I say this with affection for that was my nickname when i was a drummer in an all black band in the 80's I used to joke and say we should be called "token white" :) there's no illusion in your purpose dear one just sincerity in these lines.

I like what you've done with this and while the source of inspiration is dark in a way it highlights how charismatic evil can be and heightens our awareness of it so we can be mindful of its disguises.

Thank you. I find all aspects of evil very fascinating.
''Words are all I've got/ a purposeful illusion is enough''. In those two lines are captured all of Charlie's power over people. He simply knew what they needed to hear.

Thank you. I didn't quite see that while I was writing it but I agree.
