Help Us

Help Us

A Poem by Peggy Olson
"

The girls that hurt ourselves for boys.

"
Come along now
You're alone now
The sirens break the noise
You know they're coming for you
She's Bleeding, he's leaving
Drifting away from themselves like they're
Stuck in the ocean
And she will run away
Stay awake for 40 nights and 22 days
And she will come to life
In a corridor at midnight
Screaming help, her
I don't know who she is but, she looks just like me
oh help her please, she's trying to hide the blood on her sleeves
Won't you help her?
Before she leaves
Her skin is disappearing, I can't hear her breathe
But everyone that looks like him and other guys
Walk past that screaming phantom at midnight
She returns every day
Hoping someone might change
Their mind
Screaming help, me
I don't know who I am but I'll wait to see
I just need some warm arms to carry me
Nevermind the blood on my sleeves.

Honestly, I've been heartbroken for days now. I'd like to know what you think of this.

Many people use self-harm as a coping mechanism, which actually serves the purpose of keeping themselves safe. But as your poetical write highlights, there is an expression of overwhelming emotional distress attached to this action. Seeking help is the best coping mechanism; from healthcare professional preferably, but family members can be just as supportive if given the chance. Sharing comments and seeking support through social sites (Like WC) can bring a wealth of comments from kindred spirits. Just by posting this poem is a great start... :-)

I think that this might describe very well how a bleeding heart would be ,

Screaming help, me
I don't know who I am but I'll wait to see
I just need some warm arms to carry me
Nevermind the blood on my sleeves.

I like this poem because it draws into question how we view relationships from a point of necessity and almost desperation. I especially like the way it ends on this note. I think what could improve this poem and make it more impactful would be to add meter to it. I get it that it is free verse, but sometimes free verse can actually detract from the force of the words because of the lack of meter. Great poem! Thanks.
