Trailing Road to Nowhere

Trailing Road to Nowhere

A Poem by Sharon Miller Bolander

Trailing Road to Nowhere

She mourns for one who filled her days
With springtime's joy and summer's glee
Until sweet autumn's chilling breeze
Brought winter's loss and sorrow's grief.

She sits where once they both had sat;
She sleeps upon the bed they shared.
Within her heart, he still remains
Though she must finish out her years.

Her voice groans gray on silent walls
For he is gone where souls rejoice;
Beyond death's gate and pain's harsh hand,
His smile must dance released at last.

That road to nowhere trails her mind
Pretending somewhere nothing's changed,
Recalling hopes and dreams of love
In clear, commanding days of youth.

Beautiful prose. You have expressed the loneliness and denial of a spouse left behind until they can rejoin their loved one later. They grieve and reminisce about the friend and love now moved out our their reach. They know they are in a better place and have to wait their turn. Very well written.
