When It's All Said and Done

When It's All Said and Done

A Poem by Sharon Miller Bolander

When It's All Said and Done

Take away the fluff;
break away the grit.
Shake the better stuff;
stake a claim on wit.

Thin out a fading verse;
skin off what's less than kind.
Spin off what might seem terse
in words you've left behind.

Bale the best you have;
scale away the rust.
Trail with soothing salve;
veil remaining dust.

Glove criticism well;
shove bitterness behind.
Love lives within the shell
of what is left to find.

This is one of those poems that should be in a book for all to see for years to come. Pure beauty and originality in every word. I love the photo of the book with this as well. Your words here are so artfully full of beauty as well as reminding us of a refreshing remedy...

"Bale the best you have;
scale away the rust.
Trail with soothing salve;
veil remaining dust."

Your last stanza is absolutely incredible and brings the reader to a higher level of conciousness...

"Glove criticism well;
shove bitterness behind.
Love lives within the shell
of what is left to find."

Most enjoyable and inspirational!

An uplifting poem. I'm really not sure what I can say about it, constructively. It makes you think about things and read it over a couple of times. You get the rhythm just about spot on, in my opinion. I don't think it ever trips you up except for right at the end with
'Love lives within the shell
of what is left to find.'
but I think that works because it's right at the end, offering a moment for thought.
Thanks for the read.
