"Why" Is Not a Question Mark

"Why" Is Not a Question Mark

'Why" is Not a Question Mark

Sky above and sea below,
What wonders wait beyond the dream
That humankind does not yet know
From wading shallow in life's stream.

Sigh at depths of interlude,
Where mind does rest itself in wait,
May be a glimpse of just how nude
We stand at wisdom's mighty gate.

Nigh, the lamp of knowledge burns;
Its flame's a beacon in the night.
With ev'ry thought that spins and churns,
More oil expands its glowing light.

"Why" is not a question mark
But more and more an open end
As learning brings the dawn from dark
And opens paths at ev'ry bend.

Sharon, your end-rhyme pattern is correct, but the first words of each stanza must be the same. So if the first stanza begins its first line with the word "Sky," than the second line's first word must rhyme with "sky."
The third also rhymes with "sky" and the four line too. Then stanza 2 begins with another word that each stanza two's first word rhymes with.

Needless to say, your poem is beautiful, but you had asked about the lento.

Here is what I mean in a poem I wrote yesterday:

THAT SPARK
( A Lento Poem)

Wonder drives the restless soul that searches
Under the obvious to find new truth.
Blunder is risked by he who researches
Thunder in quiet places, extends youth

Through years of adulthood, keeping that spark
You have seen much too often disappear.
Who that love learning would opt for the dark
Stew of ignorance? Their vision is clear.
