The End of Innocence

Perfume splendid, lovely scent
Presence charming to this gent
Oblivion consumed her fear
Purer mind left facts unclear
Champagne toast, twilight sky
Serene, her smile, he knew not why
Thoughts of two lay miles apart
Be merciful, my beating heart

I needed to follow this set of rules for the contest.

Rules:

2. Use exactly forty words
3. The poem must use the words in order (i.e. perfume, first, merciful last)
perfume
splendid
presence
oblivion
purer
glass
sky
serene
two
merciful

This is fabulous and the fact that you were writing with words someone else chose makes it all the more remarkable. Great job!

liked it. the rhyme gave the poem a circular quality. it read like a rose re-blooming agan and again. it's not easy to do a 10/40 with this type of pattern--you did a great job. tovli
