Size Matters!
Just imagine a summer scene
upon a meadow flowing green.
In shade beneath an old oak tree,
that's where we sat, the ant and me.
Anxiety filled upturned eyes
where welling tears were mixed with sighs---
precocious as this ant could be,
my size would surely make him flee.
He wildly sought a clear escape
by climbing top a juicy grape.
My picnic lunch once packed for one
provided me some laughs and fun.
"Don't fall," I said and gently smiled.
My friend, the ant, was not beguiled;
preferring to avoid the fray,
he quickly turned to run away.
The ant was showing lots of spunk.
Umbrella leaned against tree's trunk;
and, quickly, he sped up its spine
to leave me all alone to dine.
My thoughts continue wandering;
and, in my mind, I’m pondering
just what that ant might say to me if I had been as small as he.
