Size Matters!

Oak tree

Just imagine a summer scene
upon a meadow flowing green.
In shade beneath an old oak tree,
that's where we sat, the ant and me.

Anxiety filled upturned eyes
where welling tears were mixed with sighs---
precocious as this ant could be,
my size would surely make him flee.

He wildly sought a clear escape
by climbing top a juicy grape.
My picnic lunch once packed for one
provided me some laughs and fun.

"Don't fall," I said and gently smiled.
My friend, the ant, was not beguiled;
preferring to avoid the fray,
he quickly turned to run away.

The ant was showing lots of spunk.
Umbrella leaned against tree's trunk;
and, quickly, he sped up its spine
to leave me all alone to dine.

My thoughts continue wandering;
and, in my mind, I’m pondering
just what that ant might say to me
if I had been as small as he.

I thorougly enjoyed this cute little story. Very well written, held my attention
from the word "imagine"! And imagine I did with the amazing imagery that you
brought to my mind.

Well done! Thank you for entering this super little story to Tovli's contest!

Sharon my friend...this is a delightfully juicy morsel of visually stunning beauty. I can just see you conversing with that ant and wondering what your smile really meant. LOL. But I'll bet if you were no bigger than that ant, you'd be the one who was running...LOL.
