Land of Broken Hearts

Land of Broken Hearts

A Poem by Sharon Miller Bolander

It’s in the land of broken hearts

where faded dreams reside

that many broken promises

have found a place to hide.

Forever love that flew the coop

sits here all teary-eyed

for promises, once made in haste,

too easily have died.

Regrets can’t find an easy chair

to rest their weary legs;

instead, they form a stumbling block

much like a powder keg.

Pure hate can grow its thorny stems

among old flowerbeds

as pillows turn to concrete blocks

beneath despairing heads.

The echoes of a million sobs

Seemed captured in the air

As raining tears wet sullen cheeks

Of those whose hearts lay bare.

Forever love that failed life’s test

Sits angry, sad and blue

Repeating melancholy words,

“Just one more day with you!”

For those who’ve passed beyond the gate

to walk this rocky path,

a big supply of fuel’s here

to set afire their wrath.

Life stalls within this sorry land;

no healing eases pain.

Yet, ev’ry day, some more arrive

caught on the pity train.

Very sad... and when we get addicted to sorrow and pain and "broken promisses" they encircle us and we become "the victims" of the all world complot to martirize us ... and for sure: "...ev'ry day, some more arrive /caught on the pity train."
Lovely poem.
