Whispered PleasA Poem by Sharon Miller BolanderThe raindrops kissed the earth and whispered silent pleas, But few would take the time to hear or even see. All humankind had lost its sense of right and wrong For each did chose to voice the words of greed’s own song. The raindrops spoke of forests where the birds could fly; These places of retreat had reached from earth to sky. What once was green now lay in man-made, mangled waste For humans acted not with care---and just in haste. The melting icecaps caused the roaring oceans’ rise, And coastlands lost their beaches right before Earth’s eyes. Extinction stalked the species losing habitat, But not a soul on Earth would take the blame for that. The sands of time had trickled slowly through the glass; In tears, the raindrops whispered desperately, “Alas!” © 2008 Sharon Miller BolanderReviews
