Unrequited Love

Unrequited Love

A Poem by Sharon Miller Bolander
"

Please write a VILLANELLE! six stanzas: first five stanzas are three lines long, final stanza is four lines aba rhyme scheme except for last stanza's slight variation

"

His passionate kiss, her deep desire---

One glimpse of him

Set her heart on fire.

Promises from the tongue of a liar

Empty words from a heart grown cold

His passionate kiss, her deep desire

Must not grabble or be a crier

Even when his touch

Set her heart on fire

Her feelings would not be for hire;

He dare not take what she must not give.

His passionate kiss, her deep desire

Love's a mess; life's a mire.

Why must thoughts of him

Set her heart on fire?

His mouth met hers in one last kiss,

But poison flowed from his cheating lips.

No passionate kiss, no deep desire---

As he did no longer set her heart on fire
