Step one (admit you are powerless)A Poem by Peggy GildonI
LISTENED TO EACH PERSON IN THE ROOM SHARE THEIR LIFE STORY EACH ONE STRUGGLED THROUGH DRUG USE TO DISCOVER NO GUTS
NO GLORY AS NEWCOMERS WE SAT THERE NUMB, OUR SPIRITS BEAT AND
BROKEN WE SAID WE DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO FIX
OURSELVES NO TRUER WORDS WERE EVER SPOKEN YEARS OF CHASING THAT HIGH, WHATEVER THE DRUG OF CHOICE LEFT US SPENT AND DEFEATED, WE COULDN’T FIND OUR VOICE OUR LIVES WERE FULL OF UGLY LIES, THOUGHTS AND
DECEPTION BOTTOM CAME WE HIT IT HARD AND LOOKED UP FOR REDEMPTION SOMETHING MADE US SAY ENOUGH IT’S TIME TO TURN MY LIFE
AROUND TIME TO EMBRACE LIFE ON ITS TERMS AND LIVE IT HONOR
BOUND FOR WHO WE’VE WRONGED, FOR WHAT WE’VE DONE, OURSELVES
WE MUST FORGIVE TO REALIZE ONE DAY AT A TIME IS OURS TO CALMLY LIVE RECOVERY IS TO WATCH ONE DAY TURN INTO 30 AS WE FACE
OUR FEARS THEN CONQUER EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM YEAR AFTER
