Devils and Demons

Devils and Demons

A Poem by Peggy Gildon

I’m lost in my addiction and life is just a fantasy

I chase a high to feel no pain, no dealing with reality

I go with the devil wherever he leads

He takes care of me, he satisfies my needs

Together we feed my addiction and watch it grow

He laughs at my family, say’s what do they know

He has no fear as he watches me pray

He has his hold on me and he’s not going away

He tells me I’m not the first one he stole

He leads me to drugs now he wants my soul

***

Saint Michael fought the devil and sent him straight to hell

It wasn’t the devil who picked you up every time you fell

Who listens intently when you pray?

Who walks beside you every step of the way?

Come walk with me your higher power

We’ll see you through your darkest hour

I can see where the devil has taken a toll

But you’re not about to sell him your soul

God will give you what you need, he is very wise

You’ll feel his warm embrace; just relax and close your eyes

My Dear Writing Friend Peggy,
A very powerful poem that reminds me in ways of my posted poem titled “The Devils Brew”. Your poem like mine speaks of the tailspin towards destruction and then the saving of our being by a Power Greater Than Us!
So many of us trying to escape pain, seeking peace of mind, happiness, shyness, or even just needing to feel like we are accepted fall into a trap much more severe than a bear trap. The trap of addiction, and its final end the death of our souls. Poems like yours are powerful as they can give hope to those who suffer in the incomparable pit of demoralization. An excellent poem that stands as a ray of hope for those who still suffer. Keep Trudging on my sister of sobriety with your torch of hope, the message is shinning into the darkness of addiction.

Blessings, Laughing-Bear
