The Scenic Route

The Scenic Route

A Poem by Peggy Gildon
"

We all need to take life one day at a time. Stop and smell the roses. Observe what is going on around you. ENJOY YOUR LIFE!

"

People are in such a hurry to get from here to there

Rushing through each day they don’t know that it’s so rare

They will never get it back once that day is done

They don’t enjoy accomplishments, move on to the next one

What’s the rush?  We can’t wait to get to the end?

Rich or poor are we living the way that God intends?

We work and work to get the “things” we “need”

We can’t raise our own children we have to chase our greed

We don’t have time to sit outside and watch the children play

We have to cook and clean because tomorrows another day

I know times are different now and things today aren’t cheap

But there’s that old adage, what you sow you reap

You only live once and I seriously doubt

You enjoy the speed of the highway, take the scenic route

Both realistically and metaphorically, I couldn’t agree more. Too many of us are on a road to quick gains at the cost of long-term peace and satisfaction. Given the choice, I often take the slow, scenic route, where the lasting rewards are found.

hee hee... I almost live on that speeding highway. I will slow down when I find the time. As it is, my only choice is to cram as much into the time that I'm not working as I can.
