Complete Silence

Complete Silence

A Poem by Pearl Drops

She was born to the sound of gunfire

And to the sight of destruction and chaos

Her mother said, on the day of her birth not one tear fell

And not one cry let out

Complete silence

Like she already knew her destiny

As if it was written in pen beneath her miniature feet

Soundless, voiceless, but human

Her life was as she felt

A dark never ending hole filled with nothing but lost hope

She eventually grew up with fear roaming through her mind

And terror filled in her eyes like a lost light frantic to get out

She roamed lifeless streets silently witnessing broken souls

Dragging their feet beneath the cold motionless sand

As if they were slowly waiting for death to rescue them

From the misery imprinted in their hearts

Lost hope swims in her eyes

As she carries a weightless heart that misses a few beats

With a past that lost a mother’s comfort to violence and fear

With no one on her side

She is left to wander ghostly streets that has nothing to offer her but air to breathe

She travels like a strayed dog that desperately hopes to be found

But eventually gets lost forever to the forgotten streets

Hunger kisses the tips of her lips

And agony lies on the rims of her eyes

As she travels through town in fear

No one notices her ghostly sight

No one seems to listen to the pain that lingers in her mouth

As she screams in despair

The sound of her voice becomes nothing but the wind

That travels in the mist of a rainy summer’s night

But her desperation turns to frustration

And she drops to the ground

While hopelessness beckons to her feet

Helplessness straps to her arms

As she tries to grasp her face in her palms

With dried tears that stain her dusty round face

She lets out one final cry

“Struggle is what runs through my veins”

But total silence fills the air

Like an empty heart that never beats one sound of life

She finally collapses to the ground in disbelief

Her final breath, she manages to word out one final cry

But nothing comes out of her dried tired mouth

Her eyes fall shut

And her fingers hit the cold ground

She has now lost her fight

And death kisses her one final goodnight

The wind blows the cold sand over her lifeless body

Struggle is soundless, voiceless, but human

She was struggle

And pain was her name

i was so captivatied by the begingig of the story i couldn't help myseft from reading the first stanza over and over again it took my breathe away i think that the rest of the poem wasn't as good as the first stanza until i got to the last one it was an amazing beging and ending if you kept all of them with that same sense of quality you'll writing will become so good that everyone will want to read it good job

very good, very good. my personal favorite lines are: Hunger kisses the tips of her lips / and agony lies on the rims of her eyes...
my only suggestion is this: as writers, we all tend to favor certain words and then works can sound repetitive... you used "lost" and "hopelessness" and such many times... go to thesaurus.com and you will find many just as powerful words that mean the same thing :)
hope that helps and good write
