The Fork

The Fork

A Poem by Paza

Mi amor, mi vida…yo te quiero…

I’ve reached a fork and must make a choice…
Do I keep pouring my love at your feet?
Do I take the road thus far untaken?

The eggshells I’m walking on are crushed
Beyond recognition…they are like sand on the path

Two nights have passed since I laid myself bare,
No surprises, nothing unsaid before, save one request

Your quiet belies your anger? Your disappointment? Your discomfort?

I can’t be sure which…your silence drowns out my thoughts

This passion, I know you’ve shared…perhaps at times unwillingly

But I have seen the words…I know what they mean, and what they don’t

Did my appeal anger you? Were you disappointed in my words?
Does my love make your neat, orderly world uncomfortable?

We’ve shared so much, you are my best friend.

Do I be thankful for what is and close the door on what is not?

The roar of your silence is only drowned out by the sound of crushing eggshells

I’m not sure which way to turn, my neat, orderly world is uncomfortable

Do I take the road thus far untaken?
Do I keep pouring my love at your feet?
I’ve reached a fork and must make a choice…

Yo te quiero…mi vida, mi amor
