Mysterious noises and MusicA Chapter by Pawprints
I relaxed, letting the music flow through me like water, or sweet honey. Over the years (and years) I'd managed a way to listen to my iPod without teachers noticing. The iPod sat on my shoulder, headphone chord going up the sleeve of my shirt and into my ear. I rested my hand on my ear to hide that it was there, though I don't think anyone would've noticed anyway.
My eyelids were half shut. I wished I were in bed at my apartment, or maybe by the beach-- "Psst!" My eyes snapped open. I looked around, but everyone was looking to the front of the classroom, eyes dead. "Psst!" There it was again. I turned around, scowling. The girl behind me, I think her name was Meredith, looked up. "What's the idea?" I hissed. She knit her eyebrows together. "What?" "What you're doing," I said, gesturing to all of her. "It's not funny." She just shook her head. I rolled my eyes and turned around again, this time turning off the music to see if the mysterious noise would come again. "Psst!" "Would you stop it!" I growled, a little to loudly at Meredith. She shrunk back and I felt a pit in my stomach as I saw was was lying next to her backpack. "Is there a problem?" Mr. Burns asked from the front of the classroom. I could only faintly hear him from the sound of my heart. "Yes," I whispered to myself. "There is a big problem."
