A Dark Poem

A Dark Poem

A Poem by Pawprints
"

My friend and I sort of went back and forth on writing the lines.

"
Some people are worthless scumbags who choose the path of idiocy
Some people don't choose that path, but are born into it
Some choose a dark path that has nothing in store but pain
While others stumble across it, wandering unknowingly into the darkness
Some are none of these but choose a path of pain and suffering.
Why these talented people choose this path is unknown
Monsters are born within us-we are not born with monsters
The demons inside take over-only the strong hearted can survive the horrors
Survive they do-live they don't
The weak and feeble minded don't survive- live they do in fear and in darkness never knowing who will control them next
Because once the darkness descends, we are just empty carcasses, slumped on broken walls
With the fear of dying, the fear of tomorrow, the fear of not knowing
But in truth, it is the fear that kills us
The fear that consumes us, eats us whole without second thought.
Gnawing on the rotten that's the inside of us, tearing at our heart until the blood seeps out, dripping on what used to be
What used to be our souls, our love, our strength. What little bravery we had.
We turn to God. The one who was going to watch over us, the one who was going to save us from this
Does he exist? Or is he a figment of our imagination? The regrets that create this god like figure. Or has he just been formed to make up for the stupidity we call human kind. Formed because we weren't smart enough to know scientifically how our world was formed. In fear how do we know what is real and what is imaginary?
He is the one that will always know us, the one that tells us to do what we do. Kill, slaughter ourselves. He exists because we need him to. He exists because the thought of controlling ourselves, the thought of being responsible for our actions is too great a burden
The fear we will face is just another one of his tests that keeps us from soaring, keeps us from crying over the thought of our stupidity, he is the one and only person who will truly suppress us.
No. That is where we are wrong. We suppress ourselves. No matter how we twist it to be someone else, it is always ourselves
We can not gain the power to free ourselves if we do to know who is pinning us to the floor. How are we supposed to love, be free, fly without releasing us from this cage
How about watching something that won't give me horrific nightmares about humanity falling to bits?
Fair enough, as it is we are the suppressors and the suppressed. The question is, can we live with that?

~ M., you and your friend have written a masterpiece... and i'll tell you why i say so... ~ the one i love and write for is drowning in this darkness... he's so afraid of taking ownership of his life that he has landed up in a cult... and he is self-destructing... ~ every word, every image, and every line of this piece is powerful, poignant, perceptive and thought-provoking... ~ absolutely awe-inspiring work...

Thank you so much, Serah. It is rather grim in itself.
