Prisoner

Prisoner

A Poem by Pawprints

You hide yourself

You hide behind that curtain

Of what everyone thinks you are

You grin, kicking down your pants

Swinging your arms easily

As if there’s no burden

Though you don’t know

Who is holding that burden with you

My arms, my heart trembling

With the effort

Though you don’t know

I’m here

Watching when you slump

Hiding your face with your hands

So no one can see it.

Feeling when you collapse

Because the weight of life is too heavy

I can’t collapse.

I am a prisoner to your grief

Chained to your stress

And plastered to your fake smile
