Fickle Passion

Fickle Passion

A Poem by Pauline

Foolishly, I, with star-lit eyes aglow

Did think your very soul you gave to me

The passion in your breath fired my heart so

Yet my eyes beheld and saw not, what was thee.

It was naught but lust clasped around your heart

That stirred the blood to gushing through your veins

And I in greenness yielded up my part

Then left, (a guiltless victim wrought with pains.)

Love, unlike passion does not walk away

Nor craze the mind, nor make to spill the gut

Nor does it fall to laughter at its prey

Nor lay false words upon the tongue to strut.

Now I have come full circle I have learned

Love, unlike fickle passion must be earned.

A very truthful and powerful statement on love. I have always contend that women by nature innately are born with the trait of love, while to men it is foreign and must be learned. Love requires sacrifice, while most males are a bit selfish in their needs. Which rules their thoughts for the most part, needs and desires. Women are creators of life, while men take enjoyment in destroying things to see what happens from the chaos. If men where forced to carry an unborn child in their belly for several months I'm sure they would definitely have an understanding of what it is like to truly love something. It's not to say every man is a brute or caveman. It is simply an observation that we are emotionally much different than our counterparts. For identifiable and specific reasons. Thank you Pauline for this thought provoking and honest piece of wonderful writing.

Dear Pauline, many a star struck woman has ended up with egg on her face. Passion, lust is not love and this sort of situation leaves much heartache in its wake. Well done on having a go at a sonnet. Very nicely penned. Hope you are still enjoying France. Sending you all good wishes.
